Cheese dog treats with one ingredient: cheddar cheese, freeze dried in small batches in Malvern, Pennsylvania until it is crunchy and dry rather than soft and greasy. Each piece is small, so it hands out by the dozen on a walk, and the bag travels clean in a pocket or a treat pouch. One 8 ounce bag.
What the freeze dryer does to cheddar is the reason to buy it: the cheese comes out crunchy and non-greasy instead of soft. On our scorecard the pieces get 4 of 5 for crunch and 5 of 5 for training value.
Cheese treats for dogs, minus the grease
Soft cheese in a treat pouch is a mess by the end of class. This is cheddar with the moisture taken out. It needs no refrigeration once dried, so it travels clean in a treat pouch or a door pocket.
The pieces start small and break smaller for rapid rewards. We list them for dogs of all sizes, adults and puppies. They also crumble over kibble.
One bag size, one caution
The bag is 8 ounces and there is no smaller one. The caution is dairy. Cheddar is dairy, so this is not the treat for a dog with dairy sensitivities. The label also lists a minimum of 50 percent crude fat and about 153.7 kcal per ounce. Keep portions modest and let the small pieces do the counting.
The cheddar is made and shipped by Sniff and Shift in Malvern, Pennsylvania, in small batches. If your dog trains through a bag on a schedule, a recurring order saves the reordering.
Feed as a treat or reward. Not a complete diet. Provide fresh water and supervise while snacking. Once the cheddar is open, reseal the bag and keep it cool and dry.

Can dogs eat cheese?
This is cheddar made as a dog treat and fed in treat amounts. It contains dairy, so it is not suited to dogs with dairy sensitivities. If you are not sure how your dog does with dairy, ask your veterinarian.
Why freeze dried cheese dog treats instead of cheese from the refrigerator?
Freeze-drying makes the cheese crunchy and non-greasy, and it no longer needs to be kept cold.
