Introduction: Why Quail, Why Now?
In recent years, a quiet revolution has been unfolding in American backyards, homesteads, and small farms. While chickens have long been the poster child of small-scale poultry farming, another bird is stepping out of the shadows: the quail.
Quail may be small, but they offer outsized benefits for entrepreneurs, hobbyists, and families looking for healthy food and sustainable income. They are fast-growing, prolific egg layers, require minimal space, and can be raised discreetly in both rural and urban environments. Unlike chickens, which demand larger coops and more complex care, quail can thrive in setups as compact as a garage shelf or a backyard shed.
Our Story: From 12 Eggs to a Thriving Business
On New Year’s Eve 2019, our family set 12 quail eggs in an incubator. Nineteen days later, 10 tiny, fluffy chicks hatched, and with them, a new chapter of our lives began. At first, it was a curiosity — a hobby to enjoy as a family. But soon, the quail laid more eggs than we could eat, and friends and neighbors started asking to buy them.
From that humble start, Undique LLC was born. Within just a few years, we went from selling a few dozen eggs at a time to shipping thousands of hatching eggs, eating eggs, and pet products across the country. We built storefronts on Amazon, Walmart, TikTok, and launched our own platforms at Undique.us and Quailz.com, and even developed educational programs like Rentahatch.com to help schools and families experience the joy of hatching quail at home.
Why Quail, Why Now?
The timing couldn’t be better. Across the U.S., people are seeking healthier, more sustainable protein sources. Pet owners are demanding natural, single-ingredient treats. Schools and families are eager for hands-on agricultural education. Quail meets all these needs.
This book is your roadmap. Whether you want to raise a small flock for extra income, launch an online store, or build a regional brand, you’ll learn step-by-step how to make quail part of your business journey. We’ll cover everything — quail care basics, business models, sales strategies, biosecurity, NPIP compliance, automation, and scaling. You’ll also learn from our real financials: the losses we endured in our first year, the profits we earned in subsequent years, and the systems that keep us growing.
If you’re ready to turn tiny eggs into big opportunities, let’s begin.
Yours
Christian Graninger
