Slippery Elm - Digestive Support for Pets
Made in USA
What is Slippery Elm?
Best Natural Pets is proud to carry Slippery Elm tincture by Golden Lotus Herbs. Slippery Elm (Ulmus rubra) is derived from the the dried, inner bark - pith - of the Slippery Elm tree, also known as the Red elm or Soft elm. Taken orally, Slippery Elm forms a soothing, protective coating for the entire digestive tract, from the mouth all the way down to the large intestine.
What is Slippery Elm Indicated For?
Slippery Elm provides temporary relief for pets having difficulties with digestion and elimination that involve inflammation, irritation of the stomach lining and/or intestinal mucosa, and the often resulting GI pain.
So for example, perhaps your pet suddenly loses their appetite, or eats just little then vomits it up soon after (this may indicate ulcers or some other irritating factor in the stomach); or, perhaps when you take your dog out for a walk, she poops a little bit and then keeps stopping and trying to poop again, straining, with very little "production" to show for it (this may indicate heat and inflammation in the large intestine -- especially if the discharge is runny and extra-smelly). It's hard to tell for sure, because your dog cannot just tell you what hurts or what's wrong. Slippery Elm can be a nice, soothing remedy to give your animal while you work with your veterinarian to figure out the root causes of what's going on.
Dosing Guidelines for Slippery Elm:
Slippery Elm is not a pharmaceutical medication, so the ideal is to use the information below as a guide to start off with. You should observe your pet's symptoms and recalibrate the dosage accordingly. Note that if Slippery Elm does not help with your pet's symptoms, that is valuable information to share with your veterinarian as well...
Slippery Elm Tincture Dosing for Dogs:
Under 30 lbs: .25 - .5 ml, 1-3x daily;
30 - 60 lbs: .5 - 1 ml,1-3x daily;
Over 60 lbs: 1 - 2 ml, 1-3x daily
Slippery Elm Tincture Dosing for Cats:
.25 - .5 ml 1-3x daily
Contraindications:
Do not use if your pet is pregnant;
Slippery Elm coats the stomach and may interfere with the body's ability to absorb medications (give meds 2-3 hours after last dose of Slippery Elm).
